The Aboriginal Mining Guide website brings together quality information about the engagement of Aboriginal communities in mining. It presents all the information in the printed manual, plus other experiences, resources, and opinions that people bring to our attention.
Each page on the site has four sections: the Navigation Bar (at right), the TextBlock (at left), Comment (at bottom left), and the Banner (at the top).
1. Navigation Bar. Use it to search for terms, to jump to modules and topics, and to locate where you are in the Guide. You can also use it to subscribe to an e-newsletter.
- Search: key one or more words in the box provided and click Search. The results of your search will appear in the TextBlock, at left.
- Jump: to go to the start of the Introduction or a Module, or to see its main topics, click its name under the Table of Contents.
- Locate: the red-coloured items in the Navigation Bar show which Module or Topic you are currently in.
- Sign up: under “E-Bulletin Signup” key in your name and e-mail to receive Bedrock, an e-bulletin and blog with news about Aboriginal engagement in mining.
2. TextBlock. Use the TextBlock to turn from page to page in the Guide, look at definitions and images, follow links, and get downloads.
- Turn Pages: to go to the next page in the Guide, click “Next” on the grey-green bar near the top and bottom of the TextBlock. Click “Previous” to go to the page prior. Click “Up” to go to the start of the module you are in.
- Definitions: hover your mouse over any word in blue to find out its meaning.
- Images: click on any photo, cartoon, or chart to see it magnified in a Light Box. To go back to the TextBlock, click the “X” in the Light Box.
- Links: words that appear in red are linked to other items in the Guide or elsewhere on the internet. To follow a link, click on it.
- Download: to store part of the Guide on your computer, click the “Download this module as PDF” near the bottom of the TextBlock. To download the whole Guide, click “Download this guide in PDF” on the Splash Page.
3. Comment. Report your experiences or opinions concerning a topic. The site’s Moderator will post informative, courteous comments for other visitors to review.
- Report: click “Add new comment” at the bottom of the TextBlock. Key your text into the dialogue box. (Please include name and e-mail.) Click “Preview” and then “Save” to send it to the Moderator for approval.
- Review: at the bottom of a TextBlock, read comments that visitors have made about that topic. You may also reply to them.
4. Banner. Click on the words “Aboriginal Mining Guide” to go to the site’s Splash Page.
